It’s one of the worst possible nightmare scenarios for recovering addicts and their loved ones: a fake rehab center that not only fails to offer quality treatment, but subjects patients to physical and emotional abuse. The Dallas-Fort worth area was recently rocked by the arrest of ten men on charges of aggravated kidnapping after police discovered dozens of patients held captive, physically assaulted and tied to chairs in what had been billed as a rehab center for substance abuse and addiction. Fort Worth police described the conditions in which the patients were living as “medieval and barbaric”. All tolled, there were over three dozen victims who relayed stories of intense victimization, including beatings, starvation (one package of ramen noodles per day), kidnapping and emotional abuse.
